Asia stocks rise tracking U.S. tech rally; Trump-Xi meeting eyed

Asian stocks rose broadly on Tuesday, led by technology shares, as a rally on Wall Street revived appetite for artificial intelligence-related stocks and investors looked ahead to a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.
Regional gains followed a strong Wall Street session, where the Nasdaq rose 2.3% to notch a record-high close, and the S&P 500 gained 1.5%.
Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) jumped 11%, and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD) gained nearly 10% overnight, helping revive enthusiasm for the broader AI trade.
Tech shares lead gains; Trump-Xi talks awaited
South Korea’s KOSPI rose 1.7%, with Samsung Electronics (KS:005930) up 2.1% and SK Hynix (KS:000660) gaining 2.6%.
Japan’s markets were closed for a public holiday, although Nikkei 225 Futures gained 0.3%.
Taiwan’s Weighted Index rose 1.5%, with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) (TW:2330) up 0.6% and MediaTek (TW:2454) surging more than 8%.
Chinese and Hong Kong shares extended gains as investors awaited the Trump-Xi summit in Washington on Thursday.
The Shanghai Composite edged up 0.4%, while the blue-chip Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 index added 0.7%.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.6%, and the Hang Seng TECH advanced 1.4%. Chinese technology shares, including Alibaba (HK:9988), Baidu (HK:9888), and Tencent (HK:0700), were higher.
Investors are now focused on Trump’s Sept. 24 meeting with Xi, with trade, artificial intelligence, supply chains and geopolitical issues expected to feature.
