Qatar Airways Delays Amman–Doha Flight by 6 Hours Without Explanation: Passengers Outraged

Amman, August 4, 2025 | Stock News
Dozens of passengers were left stranded at Queen Alia International Airport late Sunday night after Qatar Airways flight QR401 from Amman to Doha was delayed by more than six hours, without any prior notice, explanation, or staff support on the ground.
Originally scheduled to depart at 20:25 on August 3, flight QR401 eventually took off at 02:03 AM on August 4, causing missed connections, travel disruption, and growing frustration among passengers, many of whom were international transit travelers heading to Asia, Europe, and the Gulf.
Eyewitnesses reported that no Qatar Airways staff were present at Gate 110, and passengers were left without food, water, or updates from the airline. “It was a complete collapse in customer service,” one traveler told Afaq News. “There was no announcement, no assistance, and no apology. We were abandoned at the airport for hours.”
Legal Rights and Passenger Entitlements
According to international aviation law, including the Montreal Convention, and regulations under Jordanian Civil Aviation Law, passengers are entitled to:
•Compensation for flight delays exceeding 3 hours
•Meal vouchers, water, and basic services during delays
•Hotel stay and transport in case of overnight disruption
•Reimbursement of expenses or legal compensation for emotional and financial damages
Connecting Flights at Risk
Many passengers on QR401 were in transit to long-haul destinations through Doha. Due to the delay, they reported missed onward flights, lost reservations, and urgent visa issues. Some have already filed early claims and intend to pursue full compensation.
Return Flight Still Unaffected
The return flight, QR402 from Doha to Amman, is scheduled to depart on Monday, August 4, at 09:50 AM, arriving at 12:30 PM. The flight is operated on an Airbus A350-900, and all passengers have a 25kg baggage allowance.
However, passengers are concerned that the lack of accountability and absence of communication from the airline may extend to other segments as well.
Statement from Qatar Airways
As of the time of publication, Qatar Airways has issued no public explanation for the extended delay, and passengers have not received direct communication or compensation offers from the airline.
A formal passenger complaint is currently being drafted and will be submitted to:
•Qatar Airways regional office
•Jordan Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC)
•International Air Transport Association (IATA)
